philadelphia – lessons learned • A steepening cold front may break into parts, especially if there is a separate wave preceding the front. • A south-southwest flow is not very wet east of the Appalachians in PA, unless there is a convergence zone with an onshore flow. • The instability related rainfall tends to outrun the surface front and predicted squall lines after dark are much less likely in these scenarios.
