  2. Extraction cell design Lkick Ldrift Lsep1 Lsep2 The lengths defined on the above diagram are the variables used to minimise the extraction cell length. Quad strengths in ext cell and matching cell used to match Twiss parameters at end of ext cell (5 quads in total). Fixed parameters The length of the quadrupoles and the a space either side of the kicker and septa (Lgap) are considered to be unchangeable. Lgapis required for bellows and diagnostics (eg. BPMs).

Parameter scans • Reduce final quad radius (Rquad) • Reduces Lsep2 • Increase kicker stripline voltage (Vkick) • Reduces Lkick and Ldrift • Reduce kicker aperture (Akick) • Same effect as increasing stripline voltage • Reduce thin septum thickness (Xsep1) • Reduces Lkick and Ldrift • Increases Lsep1
