  2. Why is there a new ME curriculum?

  3. Why is there a new ME curriculum? • The main reason for the new curriculum is to give students the flexibility to take classes outside of their major classes. Some examples are: • Students who want minors or certificates • Pre-Med, Pre-Law, MBA students • ME can participate in the International Plan • Students who want to ‘broaden’ their personal interests

Can I use the new curriculum? • Students graduating Summer 2006 and later may use the new curriculum. • If you graduate after Spring 2006 but are not taking classes, you MUST use the old curriculum. • Students graduating Spring 2006 MUST use the old curriculum. • Most classes that you have already taken under the old curriculum will convert to the new curriculum. • Freshman starting in Fall 2005 will be using the new curriculum only.

Should I use the new or old curriculum? • Students may graduate under any curriculum available while enrolled at Georgia Tech. • The new curriculum gives the students more flexibility (free electives). • In general, students should want to move to the new curriculum. • Dual degree students who have their Technical Electives already filled may want to continue with the old curriculum.

Can I continue to use the old curriculum? • If you choose to use the old curriculum, keep the following in mind: • ECE 3301 will only be taught through Spring or Summer 2006 • Eventually, ME 4315 may not be offered during the summer semesters (depends on enrollment) • Students can take either ME 4801 (1) or ME 4055 (1) to satisfy the ME 4055 (1) requirement.

Approximate Class Transition Times • ME 2211  COE 2001 • ME 2211: Does not exist anymore. • COE 2001: Started Fall 2005 • ME 3201  COE 3001 • ME 3201: Last semester offered is Fall 2005 • COE 3001: Begins Spring 2006 • ME 3056  ME 3057 • ME 3056: Last semester is Fall 2005 • ME 3057: Begins either Spring 2006 • ECE 3301: Last semester will be Spring or Summer 2006 • ME 3180: Will continue to be offered • ME 4315: Will continue to be offered • ME 4055: Offered at least through Spring 2006, not sure beyond… • ME 4801: One hour Technical Writing class. This will be offered as long as required

New Curriculum Requirements • No pass/fail hours allowed in the new curriculum. • ME GPA must be 2.0 or greater for graduation. • Overall GPA must be 2.0 or greater for graduation. • All classes must be passed with a D or better except for MATH 1501, MATH 1502, MATH 1522 (transfer students only), MATH 2401 and MATH 2403. These math classes must be passed with a C or better. • There are no specific level restrictions for the social science or humanities electives. • Free electives must be 2000 level or above. • ME electives must be 3000 level or above ME classes only and exclude ME 3720.

New ME Advisement System • Who is my new advisor? • Norma Frank: All ME students with less than 45 credit hours (including transfer hours) • Walk-ins: Monday – Friday, 9:30 – 5:00 • Kristi Lewis: All ME students with 45 credit hours or more (including transfer hours) • Walk-ins: Wednesday, 9:00 – 4:30 • Appointments: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9:00 – 4:20 • On-line Appointment Request
