Percent Yield. Percent Yield. How much product “should” be made is called the Theoretical Yield In most reactions, the amount we really do make is less than this real amount – it is called the Actual Yield Percent Yield – shows the relationship between theoretical and actual yields

Percent Yield How much product “should” be made is called the Theoretical Yield In most reactions, the amount we really do make is less than this real amount – it is called the Actual Yield Percent Yield – shows the relationship between theoretical and actual yields % yield = (actual yield) x 100 (theoretical)
Example When 36.8g of C6H6 reacts as shown, the actual yield of C6H5Cl is 38.8g. What is the % yield? C6H6 + Cl2→ C6H5Cl + HCl
Practice If 75.0 g of CO reacts to produce 68.4 g of CH3OH as shown, what is the % yield? CO + 2H2→ CH3OH
