ARMADILLO – SHOT II The University of Texas at Austin Travis Imken ShainaJohl Christopher McBryde Travis Sanders June 29, 2012 Boulder, CO
Mission Overview • Verify that the CDH runs, uses SD card, manages subsystems, records data • Validate COM uplinking/downlinking • Confirm that EPS provides steady 3.3V, 5V lines • Gather FOTON GPS data to compare to previous experiments. • Pressure/temp sensor integrated • The SHOT II payload contains identical or very similar hardware to ARMADILLO flight design. • The CDH, EPS, and GPS subsystems and NVS camera same as flight • The COM is half-duplex version of flight. NVS lens is similar.
Design • EPS system from ARMADILLO running multiple subsystems. • Data collected in flight autonomously and recorded to SD card. • Payload pinged via uplink to downlink dummy voltage data and magnetometer measurements.
Design GPS COM CDH NVS EPS Pressure/Temp Sensor Magnetometer
Design - Hardware • ADC • Honeywell HMR2300 • COM • Lithium 1 UHF radio • CDH • PhytecphyCORE-LPC3250 System on a Module (SOM) • Kraken v 1.0 interface board
Design - Hardware • EPS • 5V and 3.3V supply at 30W-hr • 6 Varta PoLiFlex 503759C lithium polymer battery cells • GPS • Dual frequency receiver • NVS • Matrix Vision mvBlueFOX-M121G • Edmund Optics 12mm lens • Pressure/temp sensor • Honeywell 0-15psia package
Test Data Discharging Curve with Electronic Load: constant current of 1.0A on 5V bus
Expected Results • Recorded results from the magnetometer at 10 Hz • Images from the camera every 30 seconds • COM beacon roughly every 45 to 50 seconds • Downlink dataand turn on/turn off beacon upon ground command • GPS readings from FOTON for post-launch analysis • Pressure data to correlate with GPS altitude (and temperature)
