Genome Wide Markers • We have several initiatives to develop more efficient markers for genome wide mapping, comparative mapping, and building an oat consensus map: • DArT Marker Consortium Large numbers of low-cost markers for refining the KO map and rapidly mapping new crosses (details in Platform Presentation by Nick Tinker) • SSR Markers New multi-allelic markers easily distinguish oat genotypes (details in poster by Charlene Wight, Wekai Yan, Jitka Deyl and Nick Tinker)
Target Specific Markers • We have several initiatives to develop markers tagging specific loci for genetic studies and potential marker assisted breeding: • Mapping the Dw6 dwarfing locus using NILs Dw6, and Pc91, located to KO33 near PCR-based markers (details in poster by Steve Molnar, Julie Chapados, Bonnie Bancroft, and Solomon Kibite) • SCAR and CAPS markers linked to quality traits 8 markers targeting oil content and 15 for b-glucan and protein content QTL regions (details in poster by Steve Molnar and Winson Orr)
We thank Quaker Oats, QTG Canada, and North American Millers Assoc. for supporting portions of this work.
