  4. Coordinates work of national GBC’s • Supports new GBC’s – common standards, principles • Facilitates exchange of information between GBC’s – eg conferences, visits • Strives for common approach eg Copenhagen

  5. Example – USGBC • Formed in 1993 • LEED Green Building Rating System (based on BREEAM) • Workshops • Educational Provider – Assessors • Greenbuild Conference – 40,000 attendees in 2008 • Local Chapters – 75 • Membership – 18,000

  6. Success to date – UKGBC • Formed in 2007 • Task Force approach: • Pay as you go – Innovative financing for retrofitting • STEP – Education • Code for Sustainable Buildings • Annual Conference • Information Resource • Hundreds of members

  7. WHY does Russia needRUGBC ? • Low level of awareness of Green Build • Growing gap between Green Build in advanced countries & Russia (800,000 vs 6!) • Many interested parties but no group to turn to • Great Intl. Structure, well-known & supported

  8. RUGBC Idea to form RuGBC by group of Western developers, architects, found support Russian colleagues – MonArch, ABOK etc • 3 Aims • Awareness • Green Standards • Build Community

  9. RUGBC – early days • Currently forming strategy • Awareness – talks with developers / architects and at conferences • Standards – in talks with world standard authorities – yesterday signed LOI with BREEAM • Green Shoots Tour – brought 5 UK Experts today to ProEstate Country Format sponsor

  10. RUGBC – next steps • Looking to set up task forces / working groups • Make business case for green build in Russia • Creating Knowledge Centre & marketing material • Joining working group with OlympStroy
