  3. Geography Borders Gulf of Thailand, Gulf of Tonkin, South China Sea, along side China, Laos, and Cambodia Tropical in South; Monsoonal in North with hot, rainy season Low, flat delta; central highlands; Mountainous in North and Northwest Mekong River and Red River are most important rivers

  4. Clothing Cotton clothes Wear sandals Women wear traditional Au Dai; in rural areas they wear white shirts with skirts Men wear western clothes Light-weight clothing with variety, brilliant colors Clothing differs in North and South Vietnam

History Has the longest continuous history in the world Home to one of the earliest civilizations (South and North Vietnam)- From 1954-1975 North conquered South and tried uniting the country to a communist state US supported South to prevent the spread of communism North Vietnam won by capturing Saigon- the capital of South Vietnam

  7. Currency Called “Dong” 2nd least valuable, exchanging rate currency in the world Dong based off of the Chinese bronze coin 1 US Dollar = 21,072.2 Vietnamese Dong 1 Vietnamese Dong (VND) = 0.00004746 US Dollar (USD)

  8. Economy Many natural resources such as coal, phosphates, and oil Agricultural activity made possible by the Mekong Delta and Red River Delta Main crop is rice Also have fishery and forestry Shrimp, Squid, lobster, crab

  9. Religion Atheist-81% Buddhist- 9.3% Catholic-6.7% Muslim-.1% Protestant-.5% Also practice Taoism/Daoism and Confucianism

  10. Government Communist State Only 1 party-Socialist Republic Have a president, similar to ours, who is head of state and controls the army

  11. Food “Chung Cake” - type of a traditional food Chicken meat, spring rolls Rice is big part of diet One of the healthiest diets with variety of fruits and vegetables Barely use oil

  12. Art/Literature Vietnamese pottery Drums- elaborately decorated with geometric patters Art forms highly based off of history Literacy rate-94%, with 10 years of compulsory education Many written work adopted from China
