Horse Training Peter Doulgeropoulos IQuest
Objective of The Year • My objective this year was to get my horses ready for competition • Dash and Briar were going to do halter/modeling class • Hoot was bought to sell but now I am keeping him • Ditto goal was to get him healthy and into a trail class or cowboy challenge
Hoot • Hoot is a 13 year old green broke gelding • He spent three in pasture till I acquired him in Sept. • The I acquired Him
Working Hoot • When I first got him worked from the ground for an hour a day • I use to stand with a lead rope and throw it over • Over the last four months I have ridden Hoot four days a week • In the arena • Now in the past few weeks I have been trail riding • We have been running down hills and chasing cows
Ditto • Ditto is a dead broke gelding • He’s the horse I learned to ride • He’s isolate resistant which means he can only have grass hay • He needs to be worked three times a week so he can keep weight off and not founder • I have had to become his nutrtionest
Briar • Briar is a six year old mare • She underweight, had baby, and was two months when was four years old • We didn’t know she was pregnant till the baby was born • She then got bit by a rattle snake and had to be taken to U.C. Davis • Now I have been putting weight on her
Dash • Dash is a stud colt • He was a mistake baby • This year I taught him how trailer, tie, pick up his feet, and ground work
Five to Ten Years • My dream is to be a mounted patrol officer
Future Plans • Next year I will have my horses on my ranch in Linden, CA while attending Delta community college
Blog The blog was an interesting thing. My favorite blog was the one where I talked disciplining my horses. https://www.blogger.com/home/foxtrotterhorses
Book • The I read was Considering The Horse by Mark Rashid. The book gave me great tips on how to deal with my horses.
