Gaming Biases • Game culture and technology is driven by certain concerns, aesthetic biases and play pattern preferences: • American/White • Male • Cartesian/Euclidian/Orthogonal • Combative/Competitive/Militaristic • Apolitical to “politically incorrect” • The current milieu of consumer gaming is highly skewed by these biases and preferences.

  3. The Flip Side: Open Architectures • On the other hand, game culture has a history of allowing for user-created levels, worlds and characters. • This creates the opportunity to subvert the assumptions and biases of the game medium, an opportunity which is seldom exploited.
