Monitoring system for density fluctuations on NSTX (MHD, turbulence, RF driven, Li ex.) • Global monitoring system (FIReTIP) • FIReTIP system is capable of monitoring density turbulence, global MHD modes, EM/ES waves from HHFW and Li experiments (including ELMs, ITG, TAE) • 5~6 channels covers a half of the torus (entire flux space) • Current time resolution is limited by (~500 kHz) and the proposal for higher rate up to ~1MHz is on pending • Local monitoring with High-k scattering system • High-k scattering system is capable of monitoring an extremely low level density fluctuation (addressing TEM, ETG modes) • Mode converted ES waves and nth IBW through nonlinear interaction at the edge • Time resolution is also limited to ~700 kHz (Digitizer limit) *details for each topics; NSTX dragNdrop directories/ presented by H. Park Edge (Jan,31), MHD (Feb. 9), Wave (Feb. 13), T&T (Feb. 19)
Geometry of FIReTIP and High-k scattering system Inboard ρ = 0.05 k┴ρe up to 0.7 Outboard ρ = 0.75 k┴ρe up to 0.4 • ne/ne < 0.01 • Ch4 is operating • Dk= a/2 ~1.0 cm-1 • kr >4 cm-1
Modification of detection systems for HHFW driven fluctuations High-k scattering system FIReTIP system FIReTIP IF signal is at ~7 MHz Tapped up-shifted signals at 23 MHz will be mixed with the reference FIReTIP signals and outcome is signals centered at ~30MHz FIReTIP signals at ~30MHz will be mixed with RF reference signals ~30MHz • Five regular mixers at ~880 MHz • Output will be mixed with another five mixers with ~30MHz RF frequency
