Working Age Population It refers to the population above a specified minimum age (usually 15 years old and over) who could produce the goods and services if there was a demand for their labor and if they desire to participate in such activity. also known as: 1. Potential supply of labor 2. Potential manpower/human resources Two components: 1. economically active (or labor force) 2. economically inactive (not in the labor force)
LABOR FORCE • Persons 15 years old and over who during the reference period were either employed or unemployed Not in the Labor Force • Persons 15 years old and over who are neither employed or unemployed, e.g., full-time students, stay home housewives, retirees, etc.
3 CATEGORIES OF STATUS IN EMPLOYMENT • persons who have worked at least one hour or with a job but not at work during the reference period. 1. Employed • persons without job, available and looking for work during the reference period. 2. Unemployed 3. Not in the labor force • persons who are economically inactive.
UNDEREMPLOYED PERSONS Employed persons who expressed the desire to have: • Additional hours of work in their present job; or • Additional job; or • A new job with longer working hours.
TYPES OF UNDEREMPLOYMENT • Visibly Underemployed-worked less than 40 hours during the reference week. • Invisibly Underemployed- worked 40 or more hours during the reference week.
In Region 10, 95.7% of the Labor Force are employed Of the 20 people aged 15 to 64 in Northern Mindanao 19 of them are EMPLOYED But, of the 19,5 of them are UNDEREMPLOYED and of the 5, 3 of them are INVISIBLY UNDEREMPLOYED while 2 are VISIBLY UNDEREMPLOYED Source: NSO
