Elk Grove Unified School District OnTrackCA Presented by Greg Lindner, Mark Gross and Russ Brawn CETPA Conference 2011
Today’s Presentation • Overview of EDD Project – OnTrackCA • Gather Feedback Envisioned By Elk Grove Unified School District
Review Student Data Regularly Identify Students at Risk to Graduate Use EDD Interventions to Assist Use EDD Social Media Improve Graduation Rates
OnTrackCAWhat is it? • OnTrackCA.k12.ca.us is a software service • uses data and aligned interventions • helps schools work more effectively with their at-risk populations • improving graduation rates and attacking problems like dropout. • It was envisioned by Elk Grove Unified School District. • It is powered by School Loop 5.0 software. • Thanks to a $1 million ARRA Competitive Award, it is free for five years. • Founding partners include EGUSD, School Loop Inc., CSIS • We are seeking LEA’s to expand the set of partners.
OnTrackCA • OnTrackCA is in search of a few district partners: • Alignment of their mission with the partnership’s vision • Excellence in practices and outcomes • Success in using teachers with technology to solve hard problems • The partnership is reaching out to stakeholders throughout the state: • Collaborate on indicators and interventions • Discuss the effective use of data to address problems like attendance, academics, and behavior. • The goals of the partnership are to: • Expand to include 200 districts by the start of the third year • 1000 districts by the start of the fifth year • Share their indicators and practices with each other, building a statewide community of informed, effective partners.
OnTrackCA Pilot Districts • A small number of Pilot districts will be selected • Sample Selection Considerations: • Has desire to raise graduation rates • Has commitment by the superintendent to address the issue • Has identified an owner with the authority, resources and organizational structures in place to address the issue • Makes effective use of data in decision making • Has mature data management practices in place • Has a systematic approach to intervention and support programs • Has skilled IT resource(s) • Has quality data and networking infrastructure in place • Has history of successful, preferably large-scale data integration projects • Has history of success in implementing new technologies • Mixture of large and small size school districts Audience Feedback Requested – what other criteria should be considered?
OnTrackCA KPI’s • Our initial thoughts on KPI’s to be used – based upon Research: • Attendance – Students missing a high number of classes may be at risk of not graduating • Math grades and periodic assessments – Students failing Math may be at risk of not graduating • English grades and periodic assessments – Students failing English may be at risk of not graduating • Credits Earned – Students not earning credits ‘on time’ may be at risk of not graduating • Discipline – Students with a high number of discipline events may be at risk of not graduating Audience Feedback Requested – what other KPI’s should be considered?
Additional Considerations • Once we get the system off the drawing board: • Governance – We are thinking about an Advisory Group to help advise where we go, how things are going, what additional KPI’s should be included, etc. • Risks – What risks do you see in this project? • Benefits – What benefits do you see in this project? • Success – What would it take to make this successful in your district? • Advice - What other advice would you give us to make this as successful as possible? Audience Feedback Requested – what have we missed?
