1. William Carlos Williams September 17, 1883 Rutherford, New Jersey

2. William’s Life Born in Rutherford, New jersey. Grandmother moved to the U.S with his Dad William. Went to school in Paris for two years. Attended Horace Mann School until his return to New York. William’s took a special examination that got him into the medical school of the university of Pennsylvania. While studying at Pennsylvania he befriended Ezra Pound. 3 years after graduating he wrote his first book of poems. Early in his career, he briefly became involved in the Imagist movement through his friendships with Ezra Pound and Hilda Doolittle. In 1912 he married Florence Herman.

3. Continued Life • Shortly moving to a house he wrote his second book “ The Tempers”. • He was was said to be a doctor by day and writer by night. • He didn’t only write Poems he occasionally wrote short stories, plays, novels, essays, and translations. • In his later years, Williams took on the role of elder statesman and mentored and influenced younger poets.

4. The Red Wheelbarrow so much depends Upon a red wheel
barrow glazed with rain
water beside the white
chickens Sets the tone for poem. Shows the importance of the wheelbarrow. The pause between wheel and barrow is to break the images to its most basic parts in order to view the object as closely as possible. The word glazed gives the reader a closer look on the wheelbarrow. Rain also gives it a new or fresh perspective. Another color, "white" is used to contrast the earlier red in the second stanza.
