  1. Welcome to Team Achievement’s Parent Orientation Home Access Center login is your child’s student ID number and password . This is a very important tool to keep informed of your child’s progress this year.

  4. ABSENCES RESPONSIBILTY • To report your child’s absence: • call • go online • written note • You can find a link to absentee note on the Team Achievement website. • Your child needs to check with team teachers for missed work.

  5. Tardies • Students will be tardy to school at 8:30am. • All students will be issued a slip to class from the community secretary. • 3 tardies or more per marking period will result a student being assigned after school study club for the next day.

  6. BEHAVIOR • DAIS students are expected to: Demonstrate respect Act responsibly Include others Succeed through positive effort

  7. Responsibility Slip Responsibility Slips will be filled out by a student if they do not meet the DAIS expectations. The slip will be sent home at the end of the week (stapled in their agenda) If a student receives 4 responsibility slips, anytime during a week, a phone call home will be made.

Homework • Homework is given to students so that they can reinforce material taught in class. • Homework includes studying materials, not just written work. • If your child is spending excessive amounts of time on homework over a period of time, you should contact the team so that we can help you and your child solve this problem.

  10. Homework Students will be denied recess to make up missed assignments. In the case of an emergency, parents should communicate with the teacher why your child missed an assignment, but understand that it may still need to be completed.

  11. ASSIGNMENT BOOK • STUDENTS • Write the daily assignments in each class. • PARENTS • Check your child’s assignment book daily and Team website. Please note that the website will not be as detailed as the assignment book.

  12. Math • The Math curriculum was realigned in all grades to meet the rigorous state common core standards. • We will be spending less time reviewing pervious taught math concepts.

  14. Math book Online Resource Students and parents are encouraged to use connected.mcgraw-hill.com to access their online math book and additional resources. Students have been provided their username and password by their math teacher.

Language Arts • Report card change: Reading and Writing are ONE grade now—it will be listed as “Language Arts” • Language Arts Part 1: • Interactive Read Aloud, Shared Reading, Guided Reading / Book Discussions, Independent Reading, Teacher Read Aloud. • Heavy Emphasis on book discussions and vocabulary. • Language Arts Part 2: • Mini-lessons, Shared/Modeled Writing, Independent Writing with flexible groups to support students as needed • Word work will be different this year. There will be emphasis on commonly misspelled words, prefixes and suffixes, and grammar. Students will get a new list and mini-lesson on Day 6, followed by lessons throughout the cycle and a test on Day 5.

  18. Geography • Regions of Study: • Latin America • Europe • China • Japan • India • Other topics/units • Review of Map Skills, Landforms, & Water Features • CNN Student News– national and international current events • JA BizTown – will need ATLEAST 18 volunteers for May 13th

  19. SNACK • Due to having a late lunch time (12:25pm) Students may bring a nutritious snack to eat at some point during the morning. • Reminder: Students are permitted and encouraged to use a water bottle. (Please no Gatorade or other flavored drinks.)

  20. Home/School Communication • Most school information will be sent home electronically or posted on the team website. • It is important that your email address is updated. Multiple emails are acceptable. • Parents of students that do not have an email address will have information sent home with your child. • Please check your email at least weekly. • Please note that if you email a team teacher after 9:15 am, we will not be available to read/respond until after students are dismissed.

  21. Home Access Center • All your child’s graded papers may not be returned to him/her due to portfolio building. It is important that you check the Home Access Center to keep informed of your child’s grades during the marking period.Login is your child’s student ID number and password.   22. November Conference You will receive a letter in October notifying you of an opportunity to sign up for conferencesusing PTC Wizard. * Please sign up ONLY with your child’s math teacher. We will make sure that your child’s Language Arts teacher is also present at the conference.
