What is MOODLE? • Moodle is an acronym for Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment, a program educators can use to create web pages. Moodle can be used to create an informational web site or an interactive learning environment online. This manual attempts to cover the basics of Moodle with brief instruction on features you can use to create your web site.
What can MOODLE do? • Communication tools • Student Collaboration • 24/7 Access • Student/teacher interaction • Online learning • Digital tools • Discussion board • Assessment Tools
What can a teacher do in MOODLE? • create assignments • open a chat • organize a choice (poll) for a selection or election • post questions to a forum • create lessons • design and give a quiz • initiate a wiki • conduct a workshop • track of all these activities, and many more, with a variety of administrative tools.
What can a student do in MOODLE? • see all their enrolled classes at a glance • can work on assignment from any computer with an Internet connection and a compatible browser • check their grades for assignments, quizzes and other tasks • contribute to forums, wikis, and glossaries that the teacher establishes • check their course’s calendar for important dates and upcoming course events.

How do I get a request a class? • To request a class in Moodle: • Login to Moodle • On the Left side press the All Courses link (this link is also listed below the My Courses section) • Scroll to the bottom, press the Course Request button • In the Full Name field, enter the name of the Course (German 1, German 2, etc...) • In the Short Name field, enter a short name for the Course (Ger1) • In the Summary field, enter a summary of the Course
Course Request continued • In the Reasons for wanting this course field, enter a description of the course • Enrollment Key: You can enter a password on the course to restrict access but this is not required • Click the Save Changes button. • A Moodle Administrator will evaluate the course and approve/deny the request. You will receive an email after the course has been approved or denied.
What should I add to my page? • Here are some questions to ask yourself: • Do I want to do chapters, topics, lessons, or weekly plans? • Am I going to add the notes, lesson information, or homework? • Do I want to have the resource materials from the book, ie Power Points, link to website? • Do I want to add Tests or Quizzes? • Am I going to have specific activities for them to go to moodle and do?
Adding to Page continued • Do I want to have tutorials, help pages, resources, etc? • Do you want to add pictures or video? • Do you want the students to be able to add to the site? • Will you use the News Forum, blogs or chat features? • Do I want to have student groups? • Can I start small???
Look at other MOODLE classes • Go to either middle school or high school from the district page • A course with just an i you have to enroll to enter • A course that has a face next to it allows guest users to enter • A course with a key allows only those with an access key to enter
My class has been approved so what do I do next? • Log back in • You should now see your class under my courses • Click on the class and it will allow you in to the class
What do I do next? • On the left hand side under Administration you will find Settings • Changing these setting changes the look of your page • Take a couple minutes and play with the settings
How do I change what is on the page? • Turn editing on under Administration will allow you to add to the page • You can also find the Turn editing on button on the top right
How do I add files, links, and video? • Use the add a resource drop down menu • Use the add an activity drop down menu
