Use areas • Ideally for use in residential and commercial buildings where sound insulation and slip resistance are important requirements. • May include classrooms, corridors, circulation areas in multi-storey dwellings. Typical use areas are those which are normally dry but have risks of water spillage. Example areas are found within schools, universities, student accommodation, hospitals, aged care, social housing and public buildings with heavy footfall. BUILDING UTILITIES 03

  5. Installation Variations • First and most common is the floating install. This method uses no fasteners or adhesive. The floor snaps together with a specially designed edge joint and is laid over the existing floor • Glued down installations can only be done over very secure subfloors, such as concrete. • Nailing or stapling installation is the best method for acoustic concerns. They allow the floor to vibrate with the sound, absorbing some of it, while not allowing for the type of movement found in floating installations. BUILDING UTILITIES 03
