Canyon • A canyon is a type of erosional valley with extremely steep sides, frequently forming vertical or nearly vertical cliff faces.
Valley • A valley is a landform characterized by a low-lying area of land surrounded by high areas, such as mountains or hills. Notice its “V” shape.
Cavern • A cavern or cave is a natural opening in the ground extending beyond the zone of light and large enough to permit the entry of people.
Mountain • A mountain is a geological landform that rises at least 1,000 feet above the surrounding land. (Hills are below 1,000 feet.)
Volcano • A volcano is a structure containing a vent fed by magma rising directly from great depth within the earth.
Island • An island is any area of land smaller than a continent that is entirely surrounded by water.
Ocean and Land Features • Study the map. Where are the locations of the mountains? Volcanoes? Continental boundaries?
