Goals and Objectives • Make math make sense. • Learn with understanding. • Solve problems using a variety of strategies. • Explain mathematical thinking through written and oral communication.
Math in Today’sClassroom • Math is conceptual vs rote/memorization of facts. • Multiple solutions to a problem. • Multiple strategies encouraged. • Student works collaboratively with peers and teacher. • Students have technology at hand.
Strategies for Parents • Encourage your child’s efforts in completing homework assignments. • Help make sure your child understands the work that has been done. • Ask your child to explain their thinking. • Look at your child’s notebook, read some of the explanations that have been written. If the explanations are not clear, talk with your child about why you think they may need more explanation.
