  9. Introductory Questions #1 **Write the 1st and 20th vocab. term for this week. • Name the region where some of the oldest known human skeleton’s have been found? What kind of skeletal remains were found? What can we learn from these remains? • How are bones classified? Name these groups and give an example of a bone that belongs to each group. • How does the epiphysis differ from the diaphysis? • What is the periosteum composed of and where is it located? What is this structure usually for? • What is the difference between compact bone and spongy bone?

List all of the organic and inorganic substances that make up bone. Name (3) important vitamins critical for healthy bone growth. Name the hormone responsible for stimulating bone growth. Where is this hormone produced the body? How are osteoclasts different from osteoblasts? List (3) factors that can affect bone growth. (pgs. 194-196). List the six major types of fractures. Which one do you think is the most difficult to fix or set?

How does a second class lever differ from a 3rd class lever? Draw these two types of levers. (see pg. 200) • Describe and explain what “Acromegaly” is.
