Status of One-Way and Two-Way Roaming • Projects to support one-way and two-way roaming between CDMA and GSM has been completed by TR45.2 and handed off to T1P1 • T1P1 to meet in July and approve the work for ballot. This is normally a 60-day process after which T1P1 will review peer comments and barring major technical errors, T1P1 will approve the standard to be published as J-STD-038-B • This is the official signal which will allow manufacturer’s of switch, handset and interoperability solutions and operators to incorporate the technical changes to their systems to permit the service to be offered to customers
Packet Data Roaming • J-STD-038-A/B Supports GPRS Roaming in GSM Foreign Mode • ANSI-41 customer with GPRS handset able to get GPRS service • No similar standard exist that would allow GSM customer to get 1x Packet Data Roaming for ANSI-41 Foreign Mode • Need for 1x Packet Data Roaming in ANSI-41 Foreign Mode • Request sent to 3GPP2 and TIA 45.2 / 46.3 • Response from TSG-C that R-UIM will be able to support Packet Data Roaming • Project started in TR45.2 however no contributions received as yet • More precise requirements needed from GSM members regarding packet data roaming
GGRF Commercial Issues Group • Technical Data Exchange • Proposal for standardizing the format and combining the GSM document IR 21 and the Technical Data Sheets to form one document for data exchange for Interstandard Roaming • Looking for standardized calendar for exchange of the new document • Updates on AA 27-29 Revisions • Commercial Documents AA27, AA28, AA29 approved in GGRF • Should be posted to the InfoCentre within the next few weeks
Implementation Guide & Roaming Research • Interstandard Roaming Implement. Guide – 1st draft • Intended to be used by mobile operators to assess the feasibility of interstandard roaming between GSM and CDMA • Commercial, billing & technical implementation issues • Expect to be completed in September • Roaming Market Research study • Market sizing of the worldwide roaming Business in terms of revenues • Travellers traffic • Average minutes of use • ARPU for roaming • Average tariffs • Considering a sample of all the continents and technologies • New study being conducted due to bankruptcy of previous firm doing research • Study expected to be completed in September
