TA-50 Inspection-As Per Field 23 APR • Task: Conduct a TA-50 inspection to inspect the serviceability of the equipment in preparation for summer training. In addition, provide an opportunity for the Chain of Command to gain proficiency in conducting inspections • Condition: Given a platoon of cadets, the PL and PSG, conduct the inspection to include proper wear of equipment and serviceability of equipment not worn. SLs and TLs will inspect subordinates prior to inspection to ensure standards are met • Standard: Complete the inspection of an entire platoon in no more than 1 hour
Implementation • In an effort to preserve continuity and standardization, the TA-50 will be conducted as per USCC SOP Annex B • The equipment will be worn as displayed in Annex A of this slide show (no cammo will be worn). The remaining equipment not worn will be placed in the rucksack. The TA-50 inspection will be conducted in company formation areas outside in a similar manner as a haircut inspection • The focus of the inspection is two-fold • 1. Ensure that the equipment is serviceable and clean • 2. Ensure that TLs, SLs, PSGs, and PLs can effectively and efficiently conduct an inspection

Equipment Cases All equipment cases (to include: ammo pouches, compass pouch, first aid pouch, and canteen covers) will be tied down by gutted 550 cord. Feed the cord through the alice clip keeper on the pouch (fabric that secures clips) and then tie it around the belt using a square knot. In order to secure the square knot, tie an overhand knot on each side (See Image 1). Burn tips of 550 cord to reduce the effects of fraying. Image 1
Canteens Image 2 Image 3 Canteens will also be secured to eyelet. Using about 3 ft. of 550 cord for each canteen, secure one end to an eyelet using a slip knot (See Image 2). Secure the other end of the cord to the base of the canteen neck using a slip knot. Wrap the excess cord around the canteen neck (See Image 3). Ensure tips of the 550 cord are burned.
Additional Notes* • Securing of canteen and canteen cup: 550 cord will be attached to eyelet of pistol belt, thread through hole on bottom of pouch, fed through one handle of the canteen cup, and tied with slip knot around canteen. This voids slide 8 except for slip knot on canteen and tie down to eyelet • Securing of canteen pouch: Pouch will be secured separately as per slide 7 • Rucksack (as you wear): -E-tool placed on right side (secured as per slide 7) -2-quart placed on left with strap fed around ` rucksack (secured as per slide 7) -Flashlight and weapon cleaning kit placed in velcro pouch at the top of the rucksack (ensure flashlight works) - All other items placed within rucksack • Following slides display TA-50 layout. While not officially being used on APR 23, SLs/TLs should ensure that all equipment is in good order prior to APR 23 to include items placed within the rucksack *Will be reflected in updated slideshow with pictures
Rationale and Explanations • Development uniformity for standards DMI uses in curriculum and standards enforced by BTD and Corps of Cadets. One standard for academic year and CST • Ear plugs: Ear plug case moved to canteen for easier access. In addition, ear plug case cover is prone to get lost during IMT • Battle roster numbers: Units in the Army use these. Provides accountability for equipment if lost • Securing of canteen and canteen cup: By threading 550 cord through the bottom hole of the canteen pouch, one can ensure that the canteen cup and canteen are secure with only one piece of 550 cord • Full extension of straps on butt-pack: Allows for more storage capacity and allows for easier packing of pouch • Tape: Placed on rolled excess straps and on LBE clips to ensure they are secured and such that LBE clips do not cause lacerations. • No tape on chin strap: The presence of tape does not allow for soldier to easily adjust strap. In addition, over-time, tape begins to wear leaving white, sticky residue that is not tactical
