History about Gale • Founded Frederick Gale Ruffner in 1954. • It started from a single publication – the Encyclopedia of Associations • Ruffner sold Gale Research to Thomson Corporation in 1985 • 1988, Gale produced directories on CD-ROM • 1993 it was delivering references by Internet • Gale merged Information Access Company (IAC) and Primary Source Media (PSM) in 1998 • 2007, as part of a deal by a private equity consortium to purchase Thompson Learning, Gale became part of Cengage Learning.

National Geographic Virtual Library: Kids • Content will be appropriate for ages 6 & up; elementary and middle school students • Offers coverage of the National Geographic Kids magazine (2009-present) • Additional content includes: • 200 NG Kids Books • Over 500 Images • Button within the National Geographic Virtual Library platform will allow users to just search the Kids content* • Provides a “Kids” view; currently looking at building a Gale Admin feature that will allow users to default to “Kids” view • Available on the National Geographic Virtual Library platform * Product in development, features not finalized and could change. Release date also tentative.
