University of TorontoResearch Program Purpose: To provide exposure to and inspire interest in basic or clinical research in digestive and liver disease. Provide guidance and mentorship in basic and applied research. Assist/support/guide you in pursuing an academic career in GI/Liver research
The Research Rotation, Project and Outcomes • A mandatory component of the GI training program. • 3 month block for concentrated research activities. • Longitudinal research work (prep and follow-up), case reports, other activities • 2 page proposal/report submission due January 7, 2013 (standard format) • Include a budget ($1,000 to $1,500 from UT) • Project and personal funding (supervisors) PSI, CIHR, CAG, CCFC • Must be reviewed by supervisors pre-submission • Feedback from Research Committee
The Research Rotation, Project and Outcomes • Should be of sufficient scholarly merit to be presented at a national or international meeting as poster or oral presentation • Requires a manuscript delivered on Research Day (Wed June 12, 2013) • Peer-reviewed publication.
Supervisors and mentors • Identify supervisors/mentors early • Faculty member U of Toronto • Co-supervisor permitted • Formal mentorship (assigned and unassigned) • Have regular meetings, updates • Meet with me September, February (on track) and feedback • Submit your work! • locally (hospital, U of T-DOM, CAG, AGA, ACG etc.)
