Microcolor / Mercury CIP3 Digital Presetting For All Nilpeter Offset Presses David Naisby Business Development Director Nilpeter Sales Seminar January 10th 2013
Agenda – “Is this the only waste”? • Company Overview • Microcolor Mercury & CIP3 Overview • CIP3 Features and Benefits • CIP3 ROI • Summary
AVT – Company Overview • Partner to Nilpeter for 18 years • AVT acquired GMI in Q3 2007 • Winner of two label industry technology awards • Headquartered in Israel, product Units in Israel and USA • Distribution subsidiaries in Europe, US, and Asia-Pacific • Thousands of customers worldwide • Over 3,000 Microcolor installations • 2,800 PrintVision installations • Nearly 1000 Helios installations • 900 ColorQuick installations • Public company in the Deutsche-Bourse (VSJ) • 2012 Turnover $49.45M
Why Do We Need CIP3 Preseting? • Industrialised production needs accurate processes to minimise variations and unexpected waste. • Material prices are rising year on year and increasing prices to customers is difficult = margin erosion for the label printer. • Operator skill levels are deteriorating and factory owners are not prepared to pay a significant premium for highly skilled printers ( if they could find them) • You cannot buy a NEW sheet fed or web fed offset press from any major press manufacturer in 2013 without CIP3 presetting.
What is CIP3 Presetting? • Industry standard Print Product Formated file structure. Cooperation for Integration of Processes in PrePress, Press, and PostPress=www.cip4.org • The same RIP that creates the bitmap files for the CTP or CTF, also creates a lower-resolution summary file for the same plate images. • The low-res plate image files, along with plate identifiers are stored in the CIP3 .ppf file that we use for presetting. • The results are that ink keys are preset to 85% to 90% of the final position. • Benefit = A significant saving in paper, ink and time, typically 50% to 70% • User experience

Special AVT learning algorithm • The challengesof presetting; • Ink formulation, paper printability, roller wear, general press condition - all shift continually. • The Solution; • AutoScanCal = AVT correction curves are continually learning these performance shifts. • A distinct calibration curve is applied to compensate for print characteristics of up to 5 separate paper types/classes • A separate calibration curve is maintained for each press unit • Each calibration curve is continually updated using results from the most recent production. • Shortens make-readies by using recent press information for predicting ink key values for given image values. • Intelligent press learning for faster makereadies.
Microcolor Mercury Upgrade • Required to enable CIP3 presetting • Replaces existing Microcolor I and II systems • New operator touch screen interface is graphic & more intuitive. • New Application server Hardware and Windows XP OS • 12 months warranty on upgraded parts • Fast changes from one form to the next • Automated solutions minimise waste on every start-up • Quick save & recall to hard disk or network keeps correct blade profiles ready for re-use • Internet based remote diagnostics
Nilpeter Sales Opportunity • New MO press sales: CIP3 should be standard on all press sales if not ask the prospect why not? • Retrofit CIP3 Sales with Microcolor Mercury Upgrade: Mercury upgrade adds new life into older Microcolor I and II systems. Systems older than 7 years need to upgrade Approximately 150 installations in the field to upgrade
ROI Case Study M3300 Retrofit • Upgraded from MCI to MC/Mercury & CIP3 Presetting • 6 colour 1995 press. • Before upgrade makeready data; • New Job: 500 meters of running in waste • Recalled Job from Microcolor floppy : 350 meters • New job with CIP3 225 meters start up waste • Saving • 55% on New Job • 35% on Recalled jobs
Summary • Simple and effective way to increase your customers profitability both on new and existing presses. • Proven solution with 10 years of installations across many different sectors • Tech centre MO4 press has CIP3 and is testimony to the success. • We also have excellent run control & information technologies as well. • AVT worldwide sales can assist with ROI and customer presentation if needed.
