  1. Vasutasok Szakszervezete Trade Union of Hungarian Railwaymen

  2. The establishment The Hungarian railwaymen decided for the first time on 20 of September 1896 they make own organization. In the name of General Railway Workers Association.

  3. The way to legal organization After ten years struggle for legal trade union the Minister of Commercial signed the first Constitutions of our organization on 6 of April 1906.

  4. The historical storms of the 19th and 20th century strengthened the organization. The history of our organization speaks about strikes and people who gave their freedom and life for the movement.

  5. The Trade Union of Hungarian Railwaymen was born as the first Hungarian railway worker’s organization of interest protection and today is the biggest Trade Union in the railway sector.

  6. Today • In these days the organization provides protection for more than 25000 member’s interests. • Our members are working in the Hungarian Railway Company and in its subsidiaries (cargo, public transport, maintenance,traction, offices, institutes, health organization and many other companies in the railway sector. • And many retired people are our members who worked in these workplaces.

  8. Structure of the organization • The union’s highest decision-maker organization is the Congress. Between two Congresses the Executive Council is responsible for the organization and the Presidency makes the operative decisions. • There are at least 3000 officials working in the 226 local branches.

  9. The Headquarters • The headquarters of VSZ moved to a new independent building in autumn of 2002. • The address of the headquarter: H-1023 Budapest, Ürömi u. 8.

  10. Regional representation Seven regional offices are coordinating and helping the work of local branches. • Budapest • Miskolc • Záhony • Debrecen • Szeged • Pécs • Szombathely

  11. Interest Protection Two vice-presidents are looking after the protection of the interest of the Trade Union. One of the vice-presidents controls the collective bargaining of Railway Companies and the other supervises the subsidiaries, the health institution and the offices interest protection activities. We have nine Professional Organizations.

  12. Special sector organizations The Trade Union of Hungarian Railwaymen has sector organizations show and protect the special interests: - Organization of Retired members, - Department of Women, - Department of Youth.

  13. Our national and international confederations Our Trade Union is the founder member of the Hungarian Trade Unions Confederation (MSZOSZ), and a member of the European Transport-workers Federation (ETF).

  16. Education One of most our important task is the education of representatives. In our course take part more than 250 shop-stewards and more than 120 retired representativesper year, which we hold in our Hotel near the lake Balaton.

  17. The Trade Union of Hungarian Railwaymen publishes 15500 copies per month. The name of the newspaper is Hungarian Railwaymen. It was established in 1904.

  19. Sport and cultural activities We organize championships several kind of sport, cultural programs, and many community activities.

  20. Honourable mention • The VSZ founded some honours for representatives work. • The Presidency gives three Laudatory Awards per year to local organizations. • And 15 Gold-medals to the best representatives per year.

  21. Servicies From 2003 our members have had new membership-cards. They can use these for many advantages, for example discount buying, cheaper mobile phones, internet, and insurance.

  22. Endowments For help its members and departments the Trade Union of Hungarian Railwaymen established four endowments for - retired members, - cultural activities, - youth and - reumatic conditions.
