  1. Science Project Brainstorm Write down a list of 5 things you enjoy (not necessarily science related). This could be things you like to do, are interested in, are curious about, read about, think about… don’t limit yourself!

  2. Now Pick One.. Pick ONE of those 5 topics For that topic, brainstorm a list of 5 things that VARY about that topic. For example, if you enjoy skateboarding, what things can vary? Wheel size, distance between wheels, width, length, jump type, etc. If you enjoy sleeping, think of what affects it… such as length of time slept, food eaten before sleeping, type of mattress, etc.

  3. Choose ONE of those variables… Now, pick one of those variables… one of the things that can be changed or manipulated For that variable, brainstorm 5 things that can be measured IF you changed that variable For instance, if you change the wheel size on the skateboard, you could then measure the distance traveled with one push…

  4. Status Check… At this point, you should have one topic that you have chosen, and listed 5 things you could manipulate about that topic, and 5 things you could measure after the manipulation…

  5. Try it again… Pick a 2nd topic from your original 5 things you like and enjoy Brainstorm 5 things that vary about that topic Brainstorm 5 things you could measure in response If you had a particularly hard time brainstorming the things that you can change or measure, try one of your topics that is a little more concrete

  6. Bring this list… To the library with you tomorrow during English!
