P1-2.Antwerp first diamond ring • The first diamond ring that was given as an engagement gift was given to Maria van Bourgondië. (1457-1482)  • Archiduc Maximilian  of Austria asked her to marry him with a ring with a diamond. There is no picture record of the ring. • She was the ruler of Flanders, was born in Brussels in 1457  and was buried in Brugge in 1482.
