Power Management comments in LB 159 Authors: Date:2010-01-19 Jarkko Kneckt
Abstract The presentation introduces the power management related comments that were given in LB159. Jarkko Kneckt
AID Related Comments • CID 2360, 2567 • Asking better language to AID field especially to say that AID is assigned to neighboring peer mesh STA • Proposal to accept CID 2567 • CID 2688 • Editorial comment asking to introduce the role of the AID field • Proposal to accept Jarkko Kneckt
Mesh Power Modes Related Comments • CID 2547, 2557, 2558, 2579,2723, 2724 • The mesh power modes descriptions do not contain PS mode description which is applied in d4.0 to describe that device operates in light or deep sleep • The confusion is in misuse and poor definition of the terms • There are two alternatives to describe the mesh power modes: • Apply the current description and use the correct terms, like light sleep mode or deep sleep mode in stead of PS mode appropriate places • Introduce PS mode as short hand notation that includes both light and deep sleep mode and use the current description for power management • Something else? Jarkko Kneckt
Awake & Doze states and link specific mesh power modes • CID 2802, 2726 • Awake and Doze are already defined in base 802.11 standard. Are they redefined for non-mesh STAs or are the same modes applied? • More precise description for mesh peering is requested • Proposal: The Awake and Doze states should be the same as applied in base 802.11 standard • CID 2803 • Comment is asking is it possible to operate in link specific mesh power modes • Yes, the mesh power modes should be link specific Jarkko Kneckt
PICS related comment • CID 2801 • "Power save mode operation is optional." According to the PICS table in annex A, "power save mode operation" seems to be the same as "power save mode management". If so, please use one term as opposed to two, to make the spec more readable. • The previous definition of the PICS had language that described that operation in power save is optional but support for power save is mandatory. Would the previous definition be more clear? Jarkko Kneckt
MCCA requirements for power save • CID 2171 • The mesh STA shall operate in light sleep mode or in active mode when operating in MCCA • Currently it is required to maintain synchronisation and follow MCCAOP advertisement. • No need for new requirements are defined • Is there other requirements for MCCA Jarkko Kneckt
Group Addressed Frames Delivery in MBSS • CID 2725 • The commenter is asking for benefits on the group addressed frames order • The commenter would let the scheduling principle to be totally implementation specific • Scheduling order enables more efficient power save • Agree with the commenter that benefits for the group addressed frames scheduling are poorly described • Proposal • Describe the benefits of the scheme and provide guidance for group addressed frames handling in annex X.4 Jarkko Kneckt
Path Discovery and Power Management Interoperation • CID 2800 • The comment is asking the interworking of the path discovery and power management • Proposal: • The path discovery and power management are separate issues and they may be operated at the same time • The annex x.4 contains descriptions for interworking, no additions are needed Jarkko Kneckt
Everything OK? • CID 2259 • General comment asking is everything ok in power save without any specific reasoning • Proposal to reject Jarkko Kneckt
