How does Insulation Affect the Rate of Temperature Change in a glass of Hot Water? By: Imani Powell and Satara Lynch
Hypothesis • If we put water in a glass cup with insulation will the temperature decrease at a slower rate than water in a non-insulated glass cup?
Procedures 1. We put hot water in a glass cup without insulation, with cloth insulation, and with paper towel insulation • We will program the Robot to dip the Temperature Probe into the glass of hot water. • We will record the temperature of the hot water as it changes over a three minute period using Logger Lite Software. 4. We will perform three trials with the various types of insulation. 5. We will record our final presentation.
Materials • Computer • Logger Lite - Analyze Data Sensor Software • Watch • Hot water • Insulation
Hot Water without Insulation Experimented: May19th, 2009
Cloth Insulation Experimented: May19th, 2009
Paper Towel Insulation Experimented: May19th, 2009
Analyze Data & Draw Conclusions • Our hypothesis is correct because the temperature decreased at a slower rate. • The cloth is a better insulation warmer than the paper towel.
