Meals on Wheels – Design Process Summary Nikolai Travis, Megan Schmitt, Josh Carden, Rob Laventure Abstract and Problem Statement AHP Chart from Survey Results In third world countries, it is imperative to have access to clean water and food. Our objective is to create an easy transport unit to transfer necessities from one place to another. Our design has to be cost effective considering the wealth of people in third world countries, sanitary because it will be carrying food products, and mechanically efficient enough to make a difference in these people's lives. This wheel barrow (second class lever) type system can carry large amounts of food and water for transportation and distribution. Just like any other design project we followed the design process, then conducted research to optimize mechanical efficiency considering our demographic was college students. We found similar products and similar components to our product to get a better idea of what features we could put in our design. From this research and our survey we created Meals on Wheels that can be utilized in third world countries.. The design was an overall balance of cost vs. efficiency. We completed the TRIZ system to obtain the best design ideas and avoid specific problems. We used a large amount of selection processes to determine the best possible design. Our finished design would have to be durable, cost effective, and mechanically efficient. The straps are tightened using a spool on the outside and locked into place. No matter what the size or shape is this strap will allow for a efficient transportation of food and water.
