  1. Disabled Users Group • Group met last Friday • 15 people attended plus 5 guest speakers • Tony Lowry – BDHT • Sharon Murphy – Benefits Welfare • Sue Mould – Electoral Services Manager • Katie Sharpe-Fisher – Disabled Facilities Grants • Laura Kerrigan – Sports Development

  2. In depth discussion about the way Aids and Adaptations are made including how DFGs come into play • Also discussed in detail the role of the Care and Repair Service • Broad agreement was that the work is high quality and makes a bid difference • Down side is the length of time people have to wait

  3. Subsequent discussion about the changes to the provision of sheltered housing • Adopted the Terms of Reference • Items for future meetings were • Bromsgrove Railway Station • Blue Badge Review • BDHT and Sheltered Housing • Access to sports and leisure services

  4. Relationship between the Disabled Users Group and the Equality and Diversity Forum • Some people are members of both groups • Some people only want to be involved with Disability • Circulate all papers to both groups • Or is the overlap between members enough?

  5. Bromsgrove Black History Society • This year’s plans include • The Blue Sky Puppet Theatre • Music events at the Artrix • London Community Gospel Choir • Ruby Turner, Geno Washington, Jeffrey Daniels • BDHT Black History Day with Yasus Afari • Police – Black History Quiz for Schools • BDC – dress down day for staff with display and talks about the Gambian Exchange • Bromsgrove Library Family event – Calypso singing • Library “rummage” bin with relevant items

  6. Still have a lot to do • Next meeting on 8th September • Finalise leaflet • Finalise organisation of events • Publicise through press, leaflets and posters

  7. Diwali • Have had three meetings and agreed • Event in the Spadesbourne Suite on the 26th October • Lantern making for school children pm • Evening event for socialising, food, music • Fireworks outside weather permitting • Gifts for children attending

  8. The Equalities Bill • Age discrimination protection extended to the way goods and facilities are provided • Definition of Positive Action changed • Positive Duties will cover the six grounds • Race, Disability, Gender ( already covered ) • Sexual Orientation, Religion or Belief and Age • The duties themselves may change

  9. Other Items • Review of the Inclusive Equalities Scheme • In progress – report to December meeting • Equality Impact Assessment Working Group • Need to find a date for review meeting • Being Different Together • First draft of detailed report about community experience and perceptions of living in Worcestershire has been received
