  1. A Lesson on Being Careful on What We Say For Elementary I Fellowship Bible Insights: Proverbs 15:1; James 2:2-12 Other Bible Verses: Proverbs 10:21,31,32; Ephesians 4:29 Watch Your Mouth!

  2. Materials • Block of Wood Activity: • Block of wood • Nails • Hammer • Glue • Toothpaste Activity: • Small tubes of toothpaste • Saran wrap • Toothpicks/ Q-tips • Gloves

  3. As a class, or in pairs, have students carefully hit a nail into a block of wood. Allow students to hit the nail in as deeply as they wish. Once the students have hit the nail in as far as they wish, ask the students to try to pull out the nail from the block of wood. If the students are able to remove the nail, challenge them to patch up the block of wood back to original form (e.g. they may try to use glue) Block of Wood Activity Procedures

  4. How do you think this activity relates to our lives? What does the block of wood represent? What does the nail represent? Why was it hard to pull the nail out? Why is it hard to take back what we say? How did you patch up the block of wood? How can you heal a relationship? Is it possible for things to go back to the way it was in either case? Do you know any Bible verses that warns us to watch what we say? Block of Wood Discussion Questions

  5. Cover a table or desk with Saran wrap because this activity can be very messy. Give each student a small tube of toothpaste. Ask the students to squeeze out the toothpaste. Let them decide on their own how much they want to squeeze out. Give each student a pair of gloves and some toothpicks/ Q-tips. Challenge them to put all the toothpaste back into the tube. After the students have done what they could, clean up. Toothpaste Activity Procedures

  6. How do you think this activity relates to our lives? What does the toothpaste represent? Were you able to put all the toothpaste you squeezed out back in? Is it possible to take back something that you said? Who had the easiest time accomplishing the task? (those who did not squeeze out as much or any at all) Do you know any examples in the Bible where someone said something he should not have said? Toothpaste Discussion Questions

  7. Tell a story/ testimony where someone said something he/ she should not have said. Or tell a story from the Bible (e.g. Jephthah and the Ephraimites, David and Nabal, etc.) that emphasizes the same lesson. Story Time

  8. Why do you think Person B (e.g. Nabal, or whoever spoke harshly) was so mean to Person A (e.g. David, or whoever was spoken harshly to)? How do you think Person A felt? Do you think most of the time you are Person A or Person B? How should Person A respond based on Bible teachings? How can we be careful of what we say? How should we take it if people are not so nice to us? Story Time Discussion Questions
