  2. Scope of ILIM works • Inventory of the INTEREG,FRAMEWORK and national • researchprojects aiming at connections linking Poland • with Scandinavia. • Deeper analysis of the bottlenecks and barriers in the • projects focused on trainconnections of the West part of • Poland with Scandinavia via port of Szczecin / • Świnoujście. • The findings will be confronted with container train • connections recently established: • „Ferry Train” ex Poznań via Świnoujście to Malmö • „Baltic Train” ex Wrocław via Świnoujście to Malmö WP5.5. kick-off meeting - Oslo , 02.12.2009

  3. Milestone 1 – Selection of transport corridors • Transport corridor : • West Poland -The Nordic Triangle • Existing connections • Wrocław (PL) - Malmö (SE) • Poznań (PL) - Malmö (SE) • Extensions under analysis • Malmö - Stockholm (SE) • Malmö - Oslo (NO) • Modal shift: • Rail / Ferry / Rail • vs. • Truck / Ferry / Truck WP5.5. kick-off meeting - Oslo , 02.12.2009

  4. Identified Research Projects • SEBTrans - South East Baltic Transport Link • Baltic Gateway • Baltic Gateway Plus • Adriatic –Baltic Landbridge • LogchainPolcorridor WP5.5. kick-off meeting - Oslo , 02.12.2009

  5. SEBTrans - South East Baltic Transport Link • Webside:www.sebtrans.com • Starting & ending date: 1999 & Summer 2001 • Main objectives: • The main objective of the SEBTrans project is to promote the use of transport corridors, modes and technologies, which support a sustainable regional, as well as an economic and social development of the regions involved in the project. The project promoted a comprehensive system of high quality transport and transport related services in the South Baltic Sea area, aiming at regional development and sustainable growth. The project was structured in four work packages. WP5.5. kick-off meeting - Oslo , 02.12.2009

  7. Baltic Gateway Work package 1 dealt with the South Baltic Sea area in a European and global perspective, as a sustainable region relying on maritime transport. The work included the following tasks. Work package 2 worked with improved cohesion in the area through improved accessibility. Selected corridors and bottlenecks were investigated and concrete investments prepared. The work included: a) Analysis of the corridor Copenhagen- Blekinge-Klaipeda-Minsk,b) Analysis of the corridor Copenhagen-Gedser-Rostock-Berlin-Prague,c) Analysis of the corridor Copenhagen-Malmö-Ystad-Szczecin-Wroclaw ,d) Planning a new rail link Lund-Kristianstad.

  8. Baltic Gateway Plus • Webside:www.balticgateway.se • Starting & ending date: January 2006 & completed in December 2007 • Main objectives: • Baltic Gateway PLUS is a follow-up project to the Baltic Gateway project. • The project has the following aims:- Develop an implementation Plan for priority investments in intermodal transport infrastructure and services in the South Baltic Sea area (SBSa) as identified in the Baltic Gateway project,- Provide a base for capacity building among the actors involved in intermodal transport and sustainable spatial development in SBSa,- Contribute to the development of implementation measures for trans-national projects,- Strengthen the political transport co-operation in the South Baltic Sea area,- Facilitate implementation of selected transport infrastructure investements and intermodal transport services.

A-B LANDBRIDGE ADRIATIC-BALTIC LANDBRIDGE • Webside: www.ablandbridge.eu • Starting & ending date: • 06/2006 - 04/2008 • Main objectives: • Besides east/west connections and transport corridors, the enlarged EU also needs an improvement in the transport routes connecting the Mediterranean and Baltic countries. The Adriatic-Baltic land bridge project will conduct a pre-feasibility analysis and develop a deployment roadmap for north/south intermodal transport connections which link Europe and the Mediterranean countries with global markets.

  10. Logchain POLCORRIDOR • Webside: • Starting & ending date: 2002 - 2005 • Main objectives: • Study to develop , commercially validate an intermodal system for trans – European freight transfer between nordic region and South East Europe whose central building block will be „ Blue Shuttle Train” connecting two intermodal centres of Szczecin/Świnoujście and Gdynia/ Gdańskwith Vienna. WP5.5. kick-off meeting - Oslo , 02.12.2009

  12. Working group focus • The working group will study the case study of established train connections • taking into consideration the following aspects: • Identification of good practices (the bottlenecks and obstacles surmounted during implementation of the above container train connections) • Identification of still existing bottlenecks and barriers requiring improvements • Drawing up the action plan of short-term and low-budget issues • Identification of investments required as recommendations to the regional • transport strategic plan • Analysis of competitiveness of the container train connection with road • alternatives • Analysis of possibility to enlarge connection from Malmö to Stockholm • and Oslo basing on potential volumes and alternative freight calculation. WP5.5. kick-off meeting - Oslo , 02.12.2009

  13. Scope of co-operation with the WP5.5. partners • analysis of containerised cargo flows • between Scandinavia and Poland • specification of container trains • connections between Malmoe and • Stockholm / Oslo • time tables • freight / handling rates WP5.5. kick-off meeting - Oslo , 02.12.2009
