Record of reading • iPad app (free) for keeping track of running records • Developed at Clemson University
Practice • Students practice reading at an appropriate level: • Audacity • Students can record themselves reading • Visual of the student’s reading – shows when inflection is used – students can listen to the recording while looking at the graph of the voice recording http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
One Minute Reader • iPad app – free (Additional books may be purchased- prices range from $2.99 to $4.99) • Teacher decides on the level text student will read • Student reads the passage – teacher can keep track of the student’s scores on a cold read, then students can read along (up to 3 times), then read alone (up to 5 times) • Students can check the meanings of selected words in the passage. • There is also a quiz that students can take at the end of the reading. • Students earn points for their practice.
Audio Drop Box/MashUp • http://ria.clear.msu.edu/ • Free site – the MashUp allows the student to practice recording a passage, then listen to the recording, and when they are satisfied, they save it to the drop box • Teachers can listen to the recording and give the student specific feedback
Comparative Audio app • iPad app ($9.99) that allows the teacher to record a passage • Designed for foreign language practice but also useful for fluency practice • Students listen to the passage and record as they read along with the passage • Students listen to their recording of themselves reading along with the passage
Vocaroo • another free computer program that allows students to record their practice readings of a passage, and listen to the recording • http://vocaroo.com/
