Original Goal for Conterminous USA DOQ • Complete first coverage of private lands by year 2002 • Complete first coverage of federal lands by year 2004. • Begin updating DOQs in year 2000. • Update most areas on 7-10 year cycle.
Brief Milestones • 1988 – Pilot project, Dane Co., WI • 1990 – 1st national digital ortho forum. • 1991 – 1st budget initiative to Congress. • 1992 – Pilot DOQ production contract by USGS-Menlo Park. • 1993 – Tech specs issued and 1st contracts awarded. • 1993 – NDOP chartered (FS,FSA, NRCS & USGS). • 1994 – First significant funding for DOQs. • 1994 – DOQ named part of NSDI Framework. • 1995 – NSGIC joins NDOP. Minnesota 1st state completed. • 1996 – 1st Steering Committee Meeting. • 1997 – USGS-Microsoft Terraserver Agreement. • 2000 – BLM, FEMA & CB join NDOP. • 2000 – 2nd generation coverage started. • 2001 – First-ever ortho contract awarded for Hawaii. • 2002 – All private lands completed. • 2003 – NAIP implemented. • 2004 – Development of web-based NDOP-NDEP project tracking system.
What Makes NDOP Work? • Committee membership is responsible for funding, program and technical leadership. • Committee is proactive, meets regularly and still communicates face-to-face. • Technical members possess professional remote sensing/GIS expertise. • Advancements in technology and industry competition combined to reduce production costs.
Timely nationwide imagery updates that meet mission requirements and that are supported by adequate funding are goals we all share
