Key Idea #1: Guaranteed Curriculum • “One of the most significant factors that impacts student achievement is a guaranteed and viable curriculum to ensure no matter who teaches a given class, the curriculum will address certain essential content. For learning to be effective, clear targets in terms of information and skill must be established.” -Marzano
Raytown’s Guaranteed Curriculum • Created Major Learner Objectives that are aligned with Grade Level Expectations, Course Level Expectations, and ACT Standards • Purchased standardized and aligned resources • Adopted a standardized Curriculum that can be accessed through e-source • Employ Curriculum Coordinators and Teaching/Learning Coaches to support implementation of guaranteed curriculum
Key Idea #2:Collaboration “Because we are committed to working collaboratively to achieve our collective purpose, the collaborative team is the fundamental building block and engine of improvement for our school. We work together interdependently to achieve common goals that are directly related to improved student learning. We are mutually accountable for achieving those goals." -DuFour
Raytown’s Collaborative Model • Embracing and encouraging the Professional Learning Community Model • Providing Collaboration time during data analysis meetings, early release Wednesdays, and curriculum camps • Providing Curriculum Coordinators and Teaching/Learning Coaches to assist in Instructional Collaboration
Key Idea #3:Formative Assessments and Data Analysis • “In my reviews of accountability data from hundreds of schools, the schools with the greatest gains in achievement consistently happen to use common assessments and collaborative scoring by faculty.” -Reeves • “Formative assessment are one of the most powerful weapons in a teacher’s arsenal. An effective standards-based, formative assessment program can help to dramatically enhance student achievement throughout the K-12 system.” -Marzano
What are Formative and Summative Assessment? • Formative Assessments: Assessment FOR learning • Summative Assessments: Assessment OF learning
Raytown’s Formative Assessments and Data Analysis • Utilizing Universal Screenings to determine individual student achievement • Analyzing assessment data and curriculum assessment to create plans for differentiated instruction • Creating Benchmark Assessments and Common Assessments to inform instruction • Providing professional development on formative assessments and data analysis
Where do we go from here? Continue our goal of increasing student achievement through offering a guaranteed curriculum, providing opportunities for teacher collaboration, developing formative assessments, and analyzing data for differentiated instruction
