Premio Server Family for Q2/2004 Premio Server Family for Q2/2004 Calvin Chen/Technical Director Tai Chen/Server Product Manager
Overview • We are refreshing our server product line in order to be more align with today's market demand • Our server product line will consist of two platforms: Zeus (for pedestal servers) and Phoenix (for rackmount servers) • We will be adding serial ATA (SATA) support to our Phoenix and Zeus servers
Product Family * New product
Naming Convention (Phoenix) • There is some logic behind the model # we’re using • For the Phoenix product line we have: -- 1U, 1U/DX, 2U, 2U/SC, and 2U/SA • The 1U or 2U denotes the height of the rackmount • If nothing else follows the 1U or 2U model #, then it is P4 based • For the 1U series, DX = Dual Xeon • For the 2U series, 2U = P4 based; 2U/SC = SCSI and 2U/SA = SATA and dual Xeon • It’s not a perfect naming scheme, but for servers, it’s better than assigning an arbitrary model # such as Phoenix 1000, 1100, etc.
Naming Convention (Zeus) • For the Zeus product line we have: -- DXE, SPSH4, and M4 • The Zeus DXE = Dual Xeon Enhanced, where “Enhanced” is when we added Xeon 533FSB support during our last product refresh • The Zeus SPSH4 is simply the Intel quad Xeon server platform name • The Zeus M4 = Midtower/P4
Phoenix 1U Specs • The Phoenix 1U is a single Pentium 4 server designed to accommodate two IDE HDDs • We will refresh it later with a new 1U chassis that will allow it to accommodate 3.0GHz or higher processors • The 1U is a low cost, entry level rackmount server, which makes it an ideal DNS or DHCP server
Phoenix 1U/DX Specs • The Phoenix 1U/DX is a dual Xeon server designed to accommodate four SCA SCSI HDDs with optional RAID 5 for fault tolerance • The 1U/DX packs a lot of power and storage into a slim 1U chassis • You can configure it up to 438GB (4 x 146GB HDDs) of storage space with RAID 5 • This server is ideal as a backup server without having to sacrifice storage or performance
Phoenix 2U Specs • The Phoenix 2U is a single Pentium 4 server designed to accommodate four IDE drives with optional RAID 1 or RAID 5 fault tolerance • The 2U is based on our low cost, desktop motherboard S661 • RAID 1 or 5 is available via an optional 3Ware four port IDE RAID controller
Phoenix 2U/SC Specs • The Phoenix 2U/SC is a dual Xeon server designed to accommodate six SCA SCSI HDDs with optional RAID 5 support • Up to 730GB of RAID 5 storage capacity (6 x 146GB HDDs) • High bandwidth connectivity is handled by the onboard dual Intel gigabit adapters • The 2U/SC is ideal as a primary server for small to mid-sized businesses
Phoenix 2U/SA Specs • The Phoenix 2U/SA is a dual Xeon server designed to accommodate six SATA HDDs • To use all six SATA bays, you will need to add the Adaptec two port and four port SATA RAID controller • Configure the two port controller with two HDDs as RAID 1 (mirroring) for the operating system • Configure the four port controller for RAID 0 (1TB) or RAID 5 (750GB) by using four 250GB HDDs • Due to its high storage capacity, the 2U/SA is ideal as a network attached storage (NAS) server
Zeus DXE Specs • The Zeus DXE is a dual Xeon server designed to accommodate six SCA SCSI HDDs • It is convertible to a 5U rackmount with the optional side rail kits • With redundant power supply and optional RAID 5 fault tolerance, the Zeus DXE is ideal as a primary server, where uptime is critical for a company • In addition, an optional tape backup (TBU) drive can be installed for offsite backups
Zeus M4 Specs • The Zeus M4 is a single P4 server designed to accommodate four types of drives (IDE/SATA/SCSI SCA) • You can add the optional SCA SCSI or SATA backplane for hot-swap SCSI or SATA support • The Zeus M4 is a lower cost version of the Zeus DXE, without the redundant power supply and dual processor support • This server is ideal as a departmental server
Zeus SPSH4 Specs • The Zeus SPSH4 is a quad Xeon server designed to accommodate up to 10 SCA drive bays • By default, the server comes with five SCA drive bays • You can add an optional 5 x SCA bay module for a max. of 10 SCA bays • It's also convertible to a 7U rackmount with an optional sliding rail kit • With quad processor and 600W redundant power supply support, the Zeus SPSH4 is the ideal server for the highest enterprise level
Windows Server and 4GB Memory Limitation • You will notice some of the Zeus and Phoenix servers are able to support greater than 4GB of memory • While the HARDWARE may be able to go beyond 4GB, keep in mind only Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition w/ its enhanced memory capabilities is able to address up to 32GB of memory • Windows 2000/2003 Standard Server is limited to 4GB of memory • This 4GB limitation also applies to non-Microsoft server operating systems such as Red Hat Linux • If you are selling or quoting a server that has >4GB of memory, please remember to inform your customer about this limitation
Summary • We have added new server products in order to diversify our server offerings • When selling servers, price isn't always the bottom line • It doesn’t make sense to save a few hundred $$$ up front, if the downtime is going to cost your customer A LOT MORE • If uptime is critical, always go with a server that has RAID 5 and redundant power supply • Always remember to use the right server for the right job • And keep the 4GB limitation rule in mind when building any servers with >4GB of memory
