EXPERIENCE - FISHING • Grown up in a small fishing settlement in Nordland county, in Vestfjord just inside the Lofoten islands. • The Aasjord family has been engaged in fishing industry from 1920 and had different fishing boats. • 1965 - 69: Practice as fisherman in summer time, in different fisheries like long-lining, trawling and purse seining on the Norwegian coast and in Barents Sea. • Also trips on board different types of fishing boats as scientist, total about 40 vessels, different size and fishing methods. Last years – on board fishing boats in projects like: • “Fishing vessels as future work place” – 2002 – 05. • “Safety matters on board small fishing boats”, 05- 06

EXPERIENCE – RESEARCH 1974 - 1085 • 1974-75: Research Engineer at SINTEF, Division of Structural Engineering. • Type of work: Static and dynamic structural analysis of ships and offshore platforms, by use of advanced computer program systems. • 1975-78: Advanced studies and research at The Norwegian University of Fisheries (NFH), following a "Doktor Ingeniør" program at NTH. • 1978-85: Senior Research Engineer at the Institute of Fishery Technology Research of Norway (FTFI), Vessel and Marine Engineering Division, Trondheim. • Project leader for the Research Programme: "Working Conditions and Safety Problems in the Norwegian Fishing Fleet".

EXPERIENCE – RESEARCH 1984 - 1996 • 1984- 85: Member of a governmental commission of "Safety for the Norwegian Fishing Feet". • 1986- 90: Senior Research Engineer at MARINTEK, Division of Marine Systems Design and Machinery. • 1987- 90: Engaged in the "Program for Industrial Development of Small and Medium Sized Companies in North-Norway", lead by SINTEF. • 1988- 89: Associate professor in Fishery Technology at the Nordland Regional College in Bodø, Norway. • Adviser and Project Coordinator for the Norwegian Fishermen`s Association on Technical Matters onboard Fishing Vessels

EXPERIENCE – RESEARCH 1991 – 2008 • 1991- 99: Senior Research Engineer at MARINTEK, Division of Fisheries and Aquaculture. • 1996: Evaluation of the special organization called: “Safety training of Norwegian fishermen” – started in 1980 – still going on with governmental support. • Oct. 2001:The Safety Award 2001 was given to H.L. Aasjord for his engagement in his work for better health, working conditions and safety for the Norwegian fishermen. • 1999 – 2008: Senior Scientist at SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture, Division of Fisheries Technology. • Making statistics about fatal accident and other accidents in Norwegian fisheries for different periods – for different organizations
