Forward • In order for this year to be a productive one, we must work together to achieve a harmonious balance within the classroom between freedom and discipline. In order to accomplish this, I have established a set of rules and corrective responses aimed at guiding the class in a productive, stimulating and focused direction. It is my goal to be fair and balanced; please follow my lead.
The following are my class rules and they will be in effect at all times: • You are to be in your seat and quiet at the beginning of class. • You are dismissed by me, not the bell. • Keep your hands, feet and personal objects to yourself at all times. • Use language that is free of obscenities, sexism, racism, prejudice and insult. • Raise your hand and wait to be called on whenever you wish to speak. • Follow the directions the first time I give them.
Note: The discipline code in the student handbook encompasses all other guidelines to be upheld in my classroom Please make sure you take the time to read the handbook. Take ownership of your education and be knowledgeable of Mount Carmel’s rules and regulations.
If YOU CHOOSE to Break a Rule: • The punishment will fit the offense. Offenses such as violent behavior, gross insubordination or violation of a school rule will warrant a Dean’s Referral immediately. Behaviors that are less severe, but in violation of the previously stated rules of the class will be dealt with in the manner as follows. This format is in no way all inclusive and is subject to change:
Corrective Responses: • 1st offense…verbal warning • 2ndoffense…final verbal warning • 3rdoffense…loss of participation points for the day • 4thoffense…detention with teacher during lunch or after school • 5th offense…a referral to the Dean of Discipline will be given and your parents will be called.
