Part I - Historical Beginnings • Formerly known as the Council of Welfare Agencies in the Philippines (CWAPI) • Established in 1949 • formally organized in 1952 by a group of Filipino leaders to respond to the aftermath of World War II • Recorded as the beginning of NGO network in the Philippines
Historical Beginnings 57 years… • Expanded network of NGOs / POs locally / internationally in partnership with GOs • Continues to be a network of social services and social development agencies/organizations • Demonstrated capacity to undertake capacity building, advocacy & social mobilization activities • Influences change in national policies and development programs

Mission To promote organizational sustainability and enhance institutional, professional, and technical competence of partner organizations for effective program coordination and service delivery
Goals and Objectives • Consolidate the network of social welfare and development agencies and POs as a force for collective action • Implement research – based innovative approaches and alternative development strategies
Goals… • Widen access and improve generation of financial resources to its members • Promote, conduct and support pro-active and sustained advocacy on key welfare issues
Partners & Clients Served • CNSP – street children, girl child, children victims of physical, emotional and sexual abuse • Disadvantaged and marginalized families in both rural and urban areas • Women in need of special protection

The Gift In Kind (GIK) Project • A nationwide textbook distribution project of NCSD and Children International • Around 16 to 20 ctr vans (around 16,000 books per ctr van) are shipped annually • Books are channeled through NCSD network members / council affiliates, and LGUs
NCSD Profile • Community - based - 113 • preventive measure intended to avoid the high incidence of street children • Center - based - 40 • provides a temporary shelter to abandoned and neglected children • Street - based - 40 • reaching out to the children whether they are in the streets or at work ---------- 193
To conclude... NCSD continues to - • address the issues of relevance, effectiveness and sustainability • evolve structurally and with it comes the redefinition of its basis for existence • operate with membership support and participation and dedication in the part of NCSD staff and board members
