Lunt’s Heath Primary School Governor Newsletter (Issue 9) March 2013 Welcome to Spring 2013…apparently! As I dug my car out of the snow I was thrilled to hear the radio presenter assure me from the inside of my defrosting vehicle that despite the temperature, it was in fact Spring. Amazingly the seemingly endless winter this year has not significantly hampered progress on the building work at Lunt’s Heath. The project looks set to complete virtually on time shortly after the Spring (there’s that word again!) Break. Those aspects that have been finished in Phase One, the new classrooms for example, are already a hit and making an impact giving a light, airy and spacious environment in which the children can learn. I very much look forward to seeing the hall when that too is completed. The official opening ceremony will take place in the Summer Term by which time we might have witnessed some Spring-like weather. With the changes to the building will come a new school website incorporating information about the school as well as the ability of parents to access progress reports on their children. It will be lovely to return to some semblance of normality at Lunt’s Heath, with lighter nights and the ability to use the whole school again. I must say credit is due to all the staff and children for soldiering on in what has been at any one time a noisy, dusty and far from ideal place to learn. My thanks too to parents and carers for doing battle with lorries, vans and cranes to ensure their children get to school on time. So when Spring has finally ‘sprung’ I look forward to seeing the new shoots of Lunt’s Heath up and running for everyone to see, enjoy and benefit from. Jill Greaves Chair of Governors I am delighted to welcome back Pam Heath as a Governor to LHPS Full Governing Body. Pam previously served as a Parent Governor when her son attended Lunt’s Heath. She returns as a LEA Governor and brings with her a wealth of experience from her professional life as a solicitor and her previous term as a Governor. She is a huge asset to our Governing Body. . Birchfield Nursery, which a great many Lunt’s Heath children have attended before coming into Reception is holding an open afternoon. It is for prospective parents of children who will be three years old by 1st September 2013. Places are available for the September intake for 5 x 3 hour sessions (either mornings or afternoons). The open afternoon will take place on Thursday 25 April from 1.30pm to 2.30pm if you’d like to attend or alternatively if you have any friends or family members looking for a nursery place from September. We still have one vacancy on our Governing Body for a parent Governor. If you’d like to help in the running of the school and you’d like to find out a bit more before putting your name in the frame please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Denton or myself. Either of us would be delighted to answer any questions you may have. Thank you to everyone who generously supported Red Nose Day 2013 by swapping one item of uniform for a piece of red clothing. If anyone caught a glimpse of the Comic Relief programme you will know how important the cause is and how much of a difference just the smallest donation can make. On behalf of all the Governors of Lunt’s Heath Primary School can I wish you and your families a very Happy Easter.
So who are your Governors? We are always looking for ways to further develop Lunts Heath Primary School. Your suggestions and ideas are very important to us. We have a suggestion box located in Reception where you can post your ideas. This is emptied and the ideas reviewed by the FGB every term In addition the ideas generated by the School Council, elected representatives from every class are reviewed and acted upon at least once per term. So whether you are parent, guardian or pupil we always want to know what you think we could do differently or better IMPORTANT If you have a concern or complaint about the school you should first approach the relevant class teacher. If you feel it is still not resolved you should then make an appointment to see the headteacher. If after these two steps you feel that the matter has not been resolved to your satisfaction, only then should you involve the Governors. THIS MUST BE DONE IN WRITING Thank you
