  1. Operational Status of Resonant Extraction Extraction tune modulated be current in the main quad bus-> low pass filter to “compensate” 400 ms Beam RF spill 100 ms QXR Tev losses I (Qh) • Issues: • Increase spill length • Spill Regulation • Spill Quality • Extraction Efficiency • Intensity limited by Tev losses • Impact on 8 GeV Beam SY120 Jamboree

  2. Current Flattop timing for Resonant Extraction Compatible with Mixed-mode Operation MI Energy Flattop 1.18 sec -> 2.18 sec Trim Dipoles • Harmonic quads • ½ int. comp • shrink phase space QXR Qh (26.42->.485) Fast 1.5 sec Slow Spill start 1.75 sec (400 ms) By removing the spill length could be increased by 250 –300 ms Pbar prod. (1.22 sec) SY120 Jamboree

  3. How do slow spill cycles fit within the Program • Minimize impact on Run II • Maximize beam to users • It will be an optimization of: • #of cycles/min in the timeline • the spill length • number of bunches S:HP3US Dedicated Mode • REDUCE cycle time and / or INCREASE spill length ! • Now .4 sec / 3.6 sec ~10% • Near .63 sec / 2.9 sec ~22% • Investigating 1.7 sec / 3.6 sec ~ 47% • S:HP3US ramp time (limiting factor) can be remedied by three options: • new transformer (more volts) – 9 mo + $ • add 2nd supply- complicated • modify ramp (raise rest level/remove undershoot – as shownwith a 1.9 sec ramp (up+down) +flattop time • MAX RMS current->cycle time • Cooling issues (heat load/ ponds) will determine minimum cycle time MI Ramp TLG 3.6 sec SY120 Jamboree

  4. Mixed-mode Cycles Minimize cycle time- to minimize impact to stacking • To implement mixed mode: • Determining timing requirements - spill/cycle time ratio [same for dedicated and mixed] • Need multibatch injection- requires Booster notcher->studies this week • Acceleration of different batch intensities -> done (NuMI studies) • TCLK event definition and (BSSB modification) to decouple stacking and SY120 for P1 and P2 beamline -> two stages, -> with the first stage being this week • Resolve optics and orbit issues between stacking and slow spill • run all 120 Gev operations on central momentum in MI ->this week ? • run stacking and slow spill with same lattice in P1 and P2 or create dual flattop power supply ramps (main and trims) -> study request in the coming weeks (with a plan by end of month) • Goals: • Define parameters (spill length/cycle time) and start testing mechanics (without beam in the next week) (Generate ramps/timing/TLG/RF/diagnostics, etc) • Test with beam the first week in May • Must easily switch between mixed mode and dedicated mode -> important SY120 Jamboree

  5. Summary • Resonant extraction established and beam tuned to Experiments by Operations on a regular basis. • Continue to optimize the extraction efficiency / improve diagnostics -> mostly parasitic tuning • Improve spill Regulation and Duty factor – QXR , Bucker • Minimize impact on Collider Operations -8 Gev impact / % TLG • Maximize spill to Experiments through increasing spill length on dedicated cycle (.4 -> .6 sec) development of mixed-mode of operation wit the goal of beam tests early May.
