Where I was born…. • Elie Wiesel was born in 1928 in Sighet, Transylvania Fifteen years old…… At the age of fifteen years old Elie and his family were deported by Nazi's to Auschwitz, Germany
After the war…… • After the war only Elie and his two older sister survived. • Elie then studied in Paris and later became a journalist. • In 1978 President Jimmy Carter appointed Elie as chairman of the president commission on the holocaust, then he became the founding chairman of the united states holocaust memorial council.
Many prestigious awards…. • Elie has received many awards including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the U.S. Congressional Gold Medal, the National Humanities Medal, the Medal of Liberty, and the rank of Grand-Croix in the French Legion of Honor. • But his most prestigious award is the noble peace prize which he won in 1986, short after winning the award he established the Elie Wiesel foundation for humanity.
A new life after…. • Elie Wiesel currently lives in New York City with his wife and son. • He continues to write new books adding to his current total of fifty.
