Awarding the Caldecott Medal • The Caldecott Medal is an annual award given to the illustratorof the most distinguished American picture book for children. • The illustrator must be acitizenorresidentof theUnited States. • The illustrations must appear in a book published in the United States. • The winneris announced in January for books published the previous year.
Caldecott Honor Books • Each year only one book wins the Caldecott Medal. • Other books that are considered to have high quality illustrations can be named as Honor Books.
