  2. Synopsis • Gok Wan returns to his ancestral home to explore the largely unseen world of Chinese mass production.

  3. Type of documentary • Voice of God narration: The documentary is narrated by Gok himself. He explains what is happening and what he and others are doing. • He has a familiar voice, known for complimenting woman. Specific for target audience. • Fly on the wall narrative – The camera follows Gok’s story.

  4. Observations • Lots of observations of the workplace • This is complimented with a non-diegetic soundtrack • The soundtrack has a Chinese tone which fits in with the on-screen images and footage. • This creates a cultural feel to the documentary.

  5. Interviews • Gok is the interviewer. • He is on screen asking questions whilst the interviews are taking place • These vary from himself, family members, people on the street and factory managers. • The interviews are varied, showcasing a range of attitudes and opinions.

  6. Exposition • Quite subjective – Gok wants you to see what happens in China and how he feels about it. • He creates empathy for the workers who are not allowed to speak to him • However, he also explains its not all hardship • This creates a balanced argument.
