MACAU Macau is a name of a place in Portugal and also aformer Portugal colony. If we want to translate this food’s name into english we should call it Custard Tart. You can taste macau not only in Portugual, also in Malasia, Singapore, Japan or in Europe. It is actually a created food.
In 16th century the taste and the first recepie came from China to Portegues. The reason that many of the spicies and fruits are available in the country, different Portugal recepies have developed. You can taste chicken macau with spicies, or prawn macau with nuts and soya or fruit macau with cocoa puding. If you like Asian food you will love macau.
TRAVESSEIROS DE SINTRA This food is from the pastry family. Travesseiros means pillow in Portuguse and Sintra is the name of a town. To make travesseiros de sintra, tou need a puff pastry dough which is crunch and delicios and custard thats all. You fill the dough with custard cream and cook it. After its cooked you roll in crystal sugar. We have almost the same pastry in Turkey but ours have more almonds and less custard inside, which I love.
BACALHAU COZIDO COMTODOS Traditional sea food. Think of cod fish, potatoes, chick peas and carots all in one plate and looks so healhy, is called bacalhau cozido com todos. You serve boiled cod fish definetly with boiled chick peas, potatoes and boiled egg and you can add any type of other boiled vegetables as you like. There is saying that, you can find 365 recepies for cod in Portugal but this dish is the traditional food for xmas as well. Todos is stands for everyone in spanish. Bacalhau is that healthy and that tasty, stands for everyone…. Mum will cook for tomorrow for sure.
FEIJOADA A typical Portugal dish, still in former colonies aswell. Feijoada is a type of bean which gives the name of the dish. Basically we can describe the food stewed beans with beef and/or pork meat in a soil pot. Some regions use white some use black beans. Feijoada has a salty and strong taste for me but not spicy. If you like beans and meat mixture you will love it.
