  1. World-Wide Review of R&D for Tracking and Muon Detection at the Linear Collider Conducted at the SLAC Linear Collider Workshop January 8, 2004

  2. Review Schedule World-wide review of detector sub-system R&D instituted by international steering group in Fall 2002. First review of tracking and muon detection held in Amsterdam on March 31, 2003. Next international tracking/muon event: LCWS in Paris, April 19-23, 2004

  3. LCWS Paris, April 2004 • Muons/Calorimetry • 7.5 hours of parallel sessions; 30 minute plenary summary. • Convened by 3 Cal experts and Marcello Piccolo • Tracking/Vertexing • 7.5 hours of parallel sessions; 30 minute plenary summary. • Convened by Marc Winter, Hwanbae Park, Dean Karlen, Bruce Schumm Parallel session organization beginning after this meeting

  4. Overview of US Developments Proposals for 3-year R&D phase now being evaluated by US funding agencies (Department of Energy, National Science Foundation) Review is somewhat coordinated between separate proposals and funding agencies Rankings provided by US Linear Collider Steering Group (USLCSG) will guide agencies Decisions within month or two (?)

  5. List of Proposed R&D in US Muons Scintillator-based muon detectiong Geiger-mode avalanche phtodiodes Tracking Simulation (reconstruction; physics signals) Alternate forward tracking (straw tubes, GEMS) GEM design and fabrication Interferometric alignment systems Scintillating-fiber intermediate tracking Long shaping-time silicon readout Silicon drift for central tracking Negative-ion TPC for central tracking
