Don’t we just put the CD in the server Installing the SharePoint binaries is the easy part but there are many factors to consider before you click the install : Location of files – I.e. Index File / Search db Type of Install Default should be complete Only use Web Front end for if dedicating servers to web application hosting Consider How management sites will be accessed when installing more than one SharePoint Server I.e. Central Administration , Shared Services Use PSConfig command line install for total control of configuration parameters Define Service accounts Minimum 4 Shouldn’t be domain administrators Least privilege access if required Plan for your databases ( see next few slides )
It’s not just about SharePoint • Plan your SQL storage • How many Content db’s • Quotas • Site collection to database mapping – Allowing for total control of data growth and data planning • Create in SQL then define in SharePoint • Plan for Concurrent user load – RPS / Page Load • Plan for AD – Service Accounts / location of DC and Kerberos • Understand IIS – Performance and Troubleshooting • 64 bit Hardware – Future proofing /performance /#servers
Pre Creating Databases in SQL in order to define the database parameters such as Initial Size , Auto Grow and data files. Then Create a Site collection in SharePoint that goes into the new database. Place Demo Title Here
Configuration Best Practices Summary List Name List Name Plan for Search database Install SharePoint logged on as farm Administrator Use PSConfig for command line installation Use SSL for central administration Configure Shared Services on Port 80 Don’t use AD Administrator as Search Service accounts Get Trained • Index file location • Data Growth • Maximize data throughput with correct disk hardware on the SQL server. • Pre create databases where feasible • Consider restoring data • Can you use Kerberos • Always use FQDN’s for Web Application defaults • Plan Service Accounts
