From the Governor A city that has Christ the Redeemer as its symbol is perfect for hosting the world’s largest Catholic event. It is with much pride and affection that we receive the World Youth Day Rio 2013. Rio de Janeiro has lots to offer participants. It has incredible natural beauty, a pleasant climate, immense cultural wealth and very joyful people. All of this makes it easy to affirm one thing: it is certainly a blessed place. Pope John Paul II once said that “The place, the city of Rio de Janeiro, inspires. This is because this divine architecture can be seen continuously. And you also see the human architecture.” We hope you will have pleasant and memorable moments here. Not only is Christ the Redeemer awaiting you with open arms, all of Rio de Janeiro’s people are ready to welcome you with all the hospitality and security. Welcome to the World youth Day Rio 2013. Sergio Cabral, Rio de Janeiro Governor
